GroAqua becomes part of a large international group
On October 1st 2026 GroAqua became part of a large international group.
Four companies are joining forces to form a strong new group that will compete with the largest suppliers of technology and services to the aquaculture industry, particularly in the North Atlantic.
The group comprises BioMarine, FLS, SMIR and GroAqua, all recognised suppliers of equipment to the aquaculture industry.
The companies offer different products, and by combining them the new company can provide a far more complete offering to the aquaculture industry and become significantly more competitive.
“GroAqua has been on an exciting journey of growth in recent years. From modest beginnings, the company has developed into a supplier of equipment and services well beyond the Faroe Islands.
We have acquired companies in both Scotland and Norway, and we have our own production of feed barges in Poland and our own division in Denmark.
It has always been clear, however, that if the company is to compete seriously with the largest players in the supplier industry, it has to do so together with others, and this step should be seen as part of that effort,” says Janus Thomsen, Chairman of GroAqua and CEO of P/F Tjaldur.
P/F Tjaldur owns GroAqua together with the company’s management.
The new ownership group will consist of the existing shareholders in the various companies, together with the European investment firm Ambienta, which with this transaction makes a significant entry into the aquaculture supplier market.
Ambienta is a European fund, founded in 2007, that invests in developing companies in sustainable industries. With offices in Milan, London, Paris, Munich and Stockholm, Ambienta manages more than EUR 4.5 billion in assets.
Although this is a large merger, GroAqua will be one of the cornerstones on which the group is built, and the Faroese owners will therefore have significant influence in the combined company, including representation on the board.
